Turning Edmonton into a Biotech powerhouse: Will the Cleaveland model work?

BioEnterprise, based in Cleveland, Ohio, is an organization that assists early stage biotech and medical devise firms.  Since 2002 it has created 80 new companies, attracted more than $860 million of new funding to these companies, and concluded over 300 tech trasfer deals, AS a resutl of this activity Cleveland has become the US's "new healthcare innovation distination".

 

Tom Facklam is a former VP, Life Sciences at the Alberta Research Council, VP of Technical Operations and Development at Biomira and CEO of IFASA [Institute for Food and Agricultural Science of Alberta]. He has spent several years at BioEnterprise before returning to Alberta recently.  Tom will describe the BioEnterprise model for growing the healthcare industry in Northeast Ohio.
